Why is my Moon sign different in WooMoon?
You may have believed your whole life that your Moon sits in one constellation — and then you open WooMoon and see another one.
Why does this happen? Let’s bring some clarity to the way your birth chart is read.
It is very simple: Western and Vedic astrology are two different ways of looking at the same sky.
Imagine the sky as an enormous clock face, and the Moon as the hand moving across it. To say where the Moon is right now, you first have to decide what to count from. And here humanity divided into two paths long ago.
You have probably already calculated your chart in the Western system of coordinates. It counts the zodiac from the spring equinox point, so it is tied to the changing seasons on Earth. But today it runs ahead of the astronomical fact by almost a full sign.
WooMoon works with Vedic astrology — Jyotish, one of the oldest traditions of watching the sky. It counts the zodiac from the real stars and constellations you can see by lifting your head at night. This is the zodiac of the starry sky.
Thousands of years ago these two systems agreed with each other. But the Earth sways in space slowly, very slowly — and because of this the “seasonal” zodiac and the “starry” zodiac gradually drifted apart. Today the difference between them is almost a whole sign.
This is why your Moon in WooMoon stands at the astronomically correct degree. Not because of a typo, but because we look at the real starry sky at the moment of your birth.
In Jyotish the Moon is the first among the planets. The Moon is your inner world: how you feel, where your energy lives, how you restore yourself, what gives you the sense of home inside.
And the Vedic system sees the Moon far more finely. It looks not only at the sign, but at the nakshatra — the small starry “house” the Moon was in at the moment of your birth. There are twenty-seven such lunar houses, and each one carries its own character, its own strength, its own archetype.
This is exactly why your Lunar Archetype in WooMoon is calculated in the Vedic system: it lets you see your lunar nature not in broad strokes, but with the depth and precision the whole thing was made for.
WooMoon shows you your Vedic Moon and invites you to discover what you may not yet know about yourself.
Open the Lunar Archetype tab and read the messages of the Moon, depending on which house of your birth chart she is travelling through today.
